I have not researched it much so my thoughts are not scientifically sound, but I do remain convinced that a visually engaging classroom will help a student desire academic engagement. I did a couple things in my classroom this week and I think they are really fun. First, I created a "Mathonym" of my name. It is a quirky way of displaying my name, but also exposes everyone who stops to look at it to math symbols that they may not otherwise pay attention to. The second thing I did was divide my doorway into angles. This naturally causes one to look down, at the angles, and puts the angles into perspective with the other angles and the doorway as a whole, 90 degree angle. I am still trying to figure out what to add to my bulletin board, but I like the actual foil as the background for the "FOIL" bulletin board. Leave a comment below if you have any ideas.
Here is the site I made my Mathonym at: mathonyms.xyz/ you have to save it as an image. I also made one for each of my students, I think they will like them.
