Nothing is free. I have been filling out some grants online, I have not idea what most of the questions are even asking. Most of the information is redundant (if I am doing it correctly). I have already filled out a few that were rejected for reasons I did not understand. Here is my delima: I want money for my classroom to purchase Surfaces for my students so we can engage in more authentic, inquiry based learning. That is easier said that done. I do not give up easily, though. I'll keep you updated on my journey, my quest for money.

I have not researched it much so my thoughts are not scientifically sound, but I do remain convinced that a visually engaging classroom will help a student desire academic engagement. I did a couple things in my classroom this week and I think they are really fun. First, I created a "Mathonym" of my name. It is a quirky way of displaying my name, but also exposes everyone who stops to look at it to math symbols that they may not otherwise pay attention to. The second thing I did was divide my doorway into angles. This naturally causes one to look down, at the angles, and puts the angles into perspective with the other angles and the doorway as a whole, 90 degree angle. I am still trying to figure out what to add to my bulletin board, but I like the actual foil as the background for the "FOIL" bulletin board. Leave a comment below if you have any ideas.
Here is the site I made my Mathonym at: mathonyms.xyz/ you have to save it as an image. I also made one for each of my students, I think they will like them. I took the courses, studied, and passed the test! I am now a level 1 Certified Google Educator! I love learning this stuff and a lot of it can be adapted and used with my Microsoft based classroom. Many aspects of both platforms are very similar. There are things I prefer in each platform but, for now, I have Microsoft and have to use it the best I can.
This Summer is the first Summer I have had in a while to really focus on my classroom. My school has a modified year-round schedule so we do not have a long Summer, but I chose to use our 8 weeks this year to really dig in and do as much as possible. I am taking time to enjoy countless softball and baseball games and my days are filled with research, brainstorming, planning, and collaborating. Thursday, I start a graduate program at Grand Canyon University in Instructional Technology. I am so excited! I cannot wait to learn all that they have to teach me.
Last year, I flipped my classes and used One Note to deliver my class content. This year, I will also be incorporating Microsoft Teams for the classroom which I believe will streamline all of the information I give my students daily. I am really excited to see how they like it. I believe that they will catch on to the "social media" similarities and love it. |
Tara HutchensLooking for ways to incorporate technology into my math classes on a regular basis. Sometimes its scary, but it is also so exciting! Archives
